Gordon and Florence Martin celebrate golden anniversary

Gordon and Florence Martin celebrated their Golden Anniversary at a 2 p.m. ceremony.

The commemoration, given by their children, family and friends, was held on September 5 at Northside Assembly of God in Crowley.

A renewal of wedding vows was officiated by Rev. Lloyd Singley under a bridal arch decorated with fall colored flowers, English ivy, and gold accents.

Musical selections were provided by vocalist Janice Edinger performing “The Rose” and an inspirational version of “The Lord’s Prayer.” Mrs. Martin’s sister, Connie Pitre, read scripture. Her selected reading was 1st Corinthians 13:1-13 from the Holy Bible. This chapter teaches that Love is the greatest gift God gives us because Love outlasts all the other gifts and it controls all that God and his redeemed people do. The services concluded with a beautiful prayer by Rev. Singley.

A reception was held following the services. A two tier cake with Bavarian creme filling, ivory icing, white lace scroll and edible pearls was served. The confection was topped with the bride and groom’s original wedding cake topper used at their 1959 wedding reception. There were 80 guests in attendance with out of town guests traveling from Plano, TX, Baton Rouge, Nashville, TN, and Lafayette.

Mrs. Martin wore a black combo chiffon and glittered mauve floral print blouse with side closure. It featured a bow tied detail, ruffled collar and three quarter length sleeves. Her attire also included an a-line, tea length skirt with a ruffled bottom. She wore a wrist designed corsage consisting of peace lilies, mauve dahlias and ribbon.

Mr. Martin wore a gray pin stripe suit with matching accessories. He also wore a white rose bud boutonniere finished with mauve sprigs and green leaves.

Mrs. Martin is the former Florence Marie Wriborg. She is the daughter of Clyde and Florence Wriborg. She worked as a homemaker throughout their marriage.

Mr. Martin is the son the late Albert Martin and Isabelle Martin. He is retired from BJ Services.

They also have seven grandchildren Mandy Morgan Crozier, Zackry Morgan, Trent Martin, Nick Martin, Lance Martin, and Megan Martin all of Crowley and Holden Martin of Lafayette.
