Governor Bobby Jindal Announces Reappointments to the Louisiana Rice Research Board

BATON ROUGE- Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced reappointments to the Louisiana Rice Research Board.

The Louisiana Rice Research Board administers rice research check-off funds collected by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, selects projects for funding, and reviews the progress of research.

According to statute, the board is comprised of thirteen gubernatorial appointments, subject to Senate confirmation.   Six members shall be appointed from a list of ten persons nominated by the Louisiana Farm Bureau, Inc., five members shall be appointed from a list of eight persons nominated by the Louisiana Rice Growers Association, and two members shall be appointed from a list of four persons nominated by the American Rice Growers Cooperative Association.

Reappointments to the Louisiana Rice Research Board:

Brian Wild, of Lake Charles, is a self-employed farmer.  Wild was nominated for reappointment by the American Rice Growers Cooperative Association, as required by statute.

Clarence Berken, of Lake Arthur, is the Co-Owner of Clarence Berken Farms. Berken was nominated for reappointment by the Louisiana Rice Growers Association, as required by statute.

Johnny Hensgens, Jr., of Lake Charles, is the Director of Farming Operations for Farmers Rice Milling Company.  Hensgens was nominated for reappointment by the Louisiana Rice Growers Association, as required by statute.

Paul “Jackie” Loewer, Jr., of Branch, is a rice and soybean farmer.  Loewer was nominated for reappointment by the Louisiana Rice Growers Association, as required by statute. 

Donald Berken, of Welsh, is a self-employed farmer and is a member of the USA Rice Federation Environmental Regulatory Subcommittee.  Berken was nominated for reappointment by the Louisiana Farm Bureau, Inc., as required by statute.

Richard Fontenot, of Ville Platte, is a self-employed farmer.  Fontenot was nominated for reappointment by the Louisiana Farm Bureau, Inc., as required by statute. 

Dane Hebert, of Maurice, is a self-employed farmer.  Hebert was nominated for reappointment by the Louisiana Farm Bureau, Inc., as required by statute.

Robert “Bobby” Miller, of Eunice, is a self-employed farmer.  Miller was nominated for reappointment by the Louisiana Farm Bureau, Inc., as required by statute. 

Wayne Wild, of Crowley, is a self-employed farmer.  Wild was nominated for reappointment by the Louisiana Farm Bureau, Inc., as required by statute.
