Guillory takes early lead in Senate 24 count

Rep. Elbert Guillory, D-Opelousas, took an early lead in the Senate District 24 runoff election vote count Saturday night.

Guillory had 941 absentee votes, compared to 369 for Patricia Cravins, D-Opelousas.

The two are seeking to succeed Don Cravins, Jr., who resigned to take a Washington, D.C. job. He is the son of Patricia Cravins.

Guillory, who represents House District 40, led the first primary.

On Saturday, he had 862 absentee votes in St. Landry Parish, compared to 242 for Cravins.

Cravins led the absentee vote in that part of Lafayette Parish that is in District 24. She had 127 votes to Guillory's 79.
