Hazardous materials recycling set Dec. 13
The St. Landry Recycling Center in Opelousas will hold its annual household hazardous waste day on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 8 a.m. until noon.
The disposal opportunity will be open to all St. Landry Parish residents. Participants will have to show proof of residency before leaving any materials at the center, which is located at 2717 West Landry.
This collection, officials said, is for households only. Large quantities from businesses, farms or commercial operations will not be accepted.
Acceptable items include:
Paints, automobile batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, household cleaners, household chemicals, pesticides, flammables, corrosives, medications, tires (limit 5 per person) florescent tubes and bulbs, other hazardous household products and electronic wastes such as computers, monitors, printers and scanners.
Items which will not be accepted at the center include infectious and medical wastes, biological and radioactive materials, compressed gas cylinders, ammunition, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and explosives.
