Helena Besse Pharr
Rayne – Funeral Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. for Helena Besse Pharr, 93, who died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at her residence.
Friends will be received Friday, January 1, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 2, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. till time of service. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday.
Pallbearers will be Fred, Phillip, Paul, and Bill Zaunbrecher, Jeff Gueno and Jim Woodfin.
Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetary #2 Rayne, Louisiana.
Surviving are one daughter, Margaret P. Zaunbrecher of Rayne, two sons, Milton Pharr and wife Earline of Moss Bluff, Norman Pharr of Mobile, Alabama, long time friend, William B. Christian, of Mobile, Alabama, thirteen grandchildren, forty-eight great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Bert Pharr; one son-in-law, Glenn Zaunbrecher; one great grandchild, Megan Hoffpauir; parents, Clifton Henry Besse and Vivian Peltier Besse; one sister, Francis Gueno.
She was born Sunday, December 24, 1916 in Houma, Louisiana, daughter of the late C. H. Besse and the late Vivian Peltier.
She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies Altar Society and the Rayne Garden Club. For many years she served as Librarian for the Acadia Parish Library in Rayne.
She and her late husband, Bert, enjoyed seeing the United States on their many bus tours. She collected miniatures, stamps, and coins. She loved painting, reading, flower arranging, baking , needlework, and playing cards and sewing with friends.
She was respectful, considerate, and enjoyed being surronded by her children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and aides of Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care and will be forever grateful to Mrs. Pharr’s sitters for the kind, considerate, loving care given her during her illness.
