Herbert “Herb” John Istre
Gueydan –– A Mass of Christian burial honoring the life of Herbert “Herb”John Istre, 58, was held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morse, on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at 1 p.m., with Father Donald Pousson officiating.
Herb passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family at his residence early Thursday morning, Dec. 10, 2009.
Visitation was held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Gueydan, beginning on Friday, Dec. 11, from 12 noon to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 12, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., and again on Sunday, Dec. 13, from 8:00 a.m. until the time of his services.
A rosary was recited on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. Herb was laid to rest in the Istre Cemetery following his services.
Herbert “Herb” John was born in Crowley, to the late Joseph Istre and Helen Trahan Istre in the winter of 1951. He was a yard supervisor for a petroleum company.
Herb was a very kind and loving person and enjoyed being with his family.
Leaving behind to cherish his memories is his beloved wife of 40 years, Janelle Hanks Istre of Rayne; mother, Helen Trahan Istre of Morse; three sons, Skipper (fiancé Monique Broussard) Istre of Welsh, Clay (Diana) Istre of San Antoino, Texas, and Scott (Jackie) Istre of Crowley; two brothers, Hubert “Mac” (Marylynn) Istre and Robert Paul “Butch” (Diane) Istre all of Morse; and his seven, beautiful grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Istre.
Carrying Herb to his final resting place were Skipper, Clay, Scott, Hubert “Mac”, & Robert “Butch” Istre and Eric Jordan Urena.
