Wolves, Ladies score holiday wins
Both the Wolves and Lady Wolves fared well during Christmas week tournaments just in time for the start of district play.
The Wolves went 2-1 at the 2013 Annual Midland Spectacular claiming wins over Elton and Carencro before dropping their final contest against the hosting Rebels.
In their opening 49-35 win over Elton High on Thursday, Rayne was led by Byron Mouton with 14 points, followed by Charles Jones and Drakkar Broussard with 12 and 11 points, respecively.
In their 55-46 win over Carencro on Friday, Broussard hit 16 points for the Wolves. Also donating towards the win were Peyton Larry with 13, Trevon Fontenot at 10, and Charles Jones with nine.
In Saturday’s final contest of the tournament, the hosting Rebels handed the Wolves their lone loss at 58-45.
Jake Gautreaux led Midland with 25 points for the win.
Rayne was led by Drakkar Broussard with a dozen, followed by Byron Mouton with 10, Peyton Larry at eight and Charles Jones dumping in seven on the day.
The Wolves will host Abbeville High on Friday, Jan. 3, with junior varsity action slated to begin at 5:30, followed by girls’ and varsity action.
The Lady Wolves participated in the Teurlings Catholic High School Lady Rebel Round-Robin Christmas weekend.
Rayne opened play on Thursday with a 49-23 win over Hanson Memorial. The Lady Wolves were led on the day by Tori Carriere with 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and six steals. Adding to the total were Tristan Mouton with 10 points, Tanner Wilson at eight and Charlesha Dugas with seven.
In Friday’s 52-35 win over Sam Houston, the Lady Wolves were led by Whitley Larry with six points, 10 rebounds, two assists and five blocks. Completing the stats were Tori Carriere with 11 points, and nine points by Tanner Wilson, Charlesha Dugas and Tristan Mouton.
In their final game Saturday afternoon, the Lady Wolves dropped a 68-65 nail-biter to New Iberia Senior High. Charlesha Dugas led Rayne stats with 17 points, two rebounds and five steals. In the effort were Cierra Harmon with nine points and Tori Carriere dumping in five.
The Lady Wolves were slated to begin district action Monday when they traveled to Beau Chene, before returning home on Friday to host Opelousas High.
