High speed pursuit ends in arres

Chief Carroll Stelly announces Rayne Police Department officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit of Kip Comeaux, 3110 Karl Street, Abbeville.

Comeaux was the driver and sole occupant of a 1994 Chevrolet truck, to-which the police department had received citizen complaints regarding reckless and impaired driving of the vehicle.

Upon officers locating the vehicle, Comeaux fled from officers and at times reached speeds in excess of 100 MPH. Theaccused was traveling approximately 80 MPH when he locked up his brakes coming to an abrupt stop; to-which a Rayne Police Unit made impact with the rear of the truck. Comeaux advised officers that he was attempting to disable the police unit by activating it’s airbags. A tactic he advised he learned from watching police television shows. Neither party involved in the accident sustained injuries.

The accident is being investigated by the Louisiana State Police. Comeaux admitted to being under the influence of multiple controlled narcotic substances. Comeaux was arrested by the Rayne Police Department for DWI 2nd Offense, Careless Operations and Flight from an Officer.
