Homeowners workshop set to discuss legal issues

Opelousas - The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center — through its Southwest Center for Rural Initiatives — is partnering with the Federation of Southern Cooperatives to provide a free workshop entitled, “Legal Issues Facing Homeowners.”

The educational program will be held Thursday, January 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Southwest Center for Rural Initiatives, located at 232 S. Liberty Street in Opelousas.

This workshop is part of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund’s Relief and Recovery Program that offers assistance to individuals and communities that were impacted by disasters. Topics that will be discussed include heir property, estate planning, obtaining contracts, property ownership, and community impact.

All interested homeowners should pre-register by contacting Dr. Keydron Guinn, Rural Sociologist, at (337) 943-2410 no later than January 13.
