Hospice looking for community partners
Hospice of Acadiana is looking for partners in the community and has scheduled a one-day training session for prospective volunteers Monday, January 26, 2009, in the Hospice conference center located at 2600 Johnston St., in Lafayette, from 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Pre-registration is required.
Hospice of Acadiana, having celebrated 25 years, is the only local non-profit organization of compassionate, well-trained professionals, support staff, and volunteers who provide medical care, counseling, and spiritual guidance to patients with a life-threatening condition and their families in a seven-parish service area that includes Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion parishes.
The training is especially helpful for potential volunteers who are interested in the hospice philosophy of patient care. Among the topics to be covered during the training are medical aspects of caring for the terminally ill, family dynamics, the grieving process, communication and listening skills, and spiritual concerns of the dying. Qualified members of the Hospice of Acadiana staff will serve as presenters.
