Huey P. Guilbeau
Funeral services were held Monday, January 24, 2011, at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church for Huey P. Guilbeau, age 81, who passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at his residence in Sunset.
Interment was in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery in Mire. The Rev. Henry J. Broussard, pastor of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, officiated at the services.
Musical selections were provided by Tammy Maturin. The songs were Ave Maria, The Old Rugged Cross, Be Not Afraid, How Great Thou Art, and Isaiah 49.
Mr. Guilbeau was a native and lifelong resident of Sunset. Mr. Guilbeau was a member of the Civil Air Patrol for over twenty years, where he aided in air search and rescue. He was a licensed pilot who enjoyed flying and showing others how to fly.
He loved his lawnmower and his time spent in the yard for his family. Mr. Guilbeau worked for many years at Rowena’s where he was lovingly known as “Pop”. Mr. Guilbeau was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Berniel Guilbeau, of Sunset; two daughters, Cindy Daigle and her husband, Mike, and Trish Guilbeau, all of Mire; two grandchildren, Michelle Guardia and her husband, Mickey, and Michael Daigle, Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Lucas Daigle, Leah Guardia, Lucienne Guardia and Ashton Delahoussaye; one brother, Nolan Guilbeau and his wife, Barbara, of Sunset; one sister, Elva Guibeau of Sunset; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Ozema Guilbeau and his mother the former Adeline Boudreaux; and one sister, Shirley Guilbeau.
A rosary was prayed at 7:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home by Darrell Burleigh.
The family requested visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Sunday and continue from 7:30 a.m. until service time on Monday.
