Iberia Bank presents an evening with The Robert Cray Band

LAFAYETTE – Iberia Bank presents “An Evening with The Robert Cray Band,” an Acadiana Center of the Arts (AcA) All-Stars Event, bringing you world-class performers in Acadiana’s most intimate and sonically pure environment.

As a five-time Grammy award winning singer/songwriter and guitar legend, it would be hard to overstate Robert Cray’s impact on rock and rhythm and blues. Don’t miss your opportunity to experience this phenomenal artist and musician performing in the AcA’s James Devin Moncus Theater Friday, October 7, 2011 at 8 p.m.

This event is the second in AcA’s new All-Stars Concert Series, presented by Iberia Bank. For the 2011-2012 season, Iberia Bank has partnered with AcA to bring eight world-class musical performances into the outstanding Moncus Theater. From classical to jazz, rock, bluegrass and country, Iberia Bank and AcA have worked together to raise the bar in presenting music to Acadiana.

“Robert Cray is an extraordinary musician, a guitarist’s guitarist,” explains AcA executive director Dr. Gerd Wuestemann. “He’s the kind of player that hears, feels and shapes every note in his mind, before transmitting it to the strings. He can really make the guitar sing and weep. Hearing Robert at AcA’s Moncus Theater will allow our audiences to hear every nuance of expression from this impeccable blues man.”

Considered “one of the greatest guitarists of his generation” (according to Music Critic, Steve Matteo) Robert Cray has been inviting audiences along on his epic musical journey – breaking through the pop ceiling with his gate crashing/blues-edged trademark sound, distinct playing style and daring innovations.

Cray has performed alongside blues titans Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton and B.B. King, having toured extensively with both Collins and Clapton. He has his own line of Fender Signature Guitars.

He has also worked with legends Tina Turner, Keith Richards, Chuck Berry, Bonnie Raitt, friend and fellow guitarists Stevie Ray Vaughn and Willie Dixon, to name a few. Featured in Martin Scorsese’s “Presents the Blues” series, Cray has also appeared in Tina Turner’s TV special “Break Every Rule,” the Chuck Berry tribute “Hail! Hail! Rock ‘n’ Roll,” and the Rolling Stones’ pay-per-view video “Voodoo Lounge.” Along with his Grammy wins, Robert Cray has released twenty award winning multi-platinum albums, received 15 Grammy nominations and with the Robert Cray Band has performed thousands of sold-out shows worldwide.

Iberia Bank and AcA’s All-Stars Series line-up also includes a performance by Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder on Nov. 2 at 8 p.m.

Fourteen-time Grammy Award winner and Nashville great, Ricky Skaggs, brings his virtuoso picking and old-time vocals to the pure acoustics of the James Devin Moncus Theater for some serious toe tapping and good ole’ hill-country Bluegrass in the Swamp.

Nov. 15 at 8 p.m., Asleep at the Wheel, the kings of Texas swing, will perform. An AcA All-Stars Event with Yvette Landry and special guests, has potential to be an amazing experience. This nine-time Grammy award winning band, led by the charismatic Ray Benson, will bring the finest of Texas swing to the AcA. Drawing on the tradition of Bob Wills and Texas Playboys and honed by years of collaboration with the great Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel is an American music icon.

Tickets range from $35-$55 for AcA Members or $45-$65 for the public.
