Ide Like a Double bounces back in the Acclaim Stakes at Evangeline Downs
Opelousas – Back in with Louisiana bred three-year-olds after a tough trip in the Grade III Lone Star Derby last month, Ide Like a Double ($7.20) bounced back with a clear cut victory over Star Production in the $60,000 Acclaim Stakes at Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino on Saturday evening. Rated off a quick, contested early pace, the Ide colt circled rivals on the turn into contention before wresting command in mid-stretch and pulling clear under confident handling from regular reinsmen Kerwin Clark.
The official margin of victory was 4 1/4 lengths and the final running time for the seven furlongs was 1:23 1/5 on a track labeled fast.
Star Production, closer to the pace than usual, continued on gamely to finish second, well clear of longshot Strategic Weapon, who closed from last to grab the show spot. Bluehard, the 2/1 favorite, weakened to fourth in the final furlong after battling thru the early fractions of 22 & 44 4/5. The six-furlong split was 1:10 1/5. Cush grabbed the final check in fifth, followed by Ide Ball, Cubera, Tensas Why Gin, and Doble Quebrado. Fiery Choice and Double Helix rounded out the complete order of finish. Snug, Okie Souvenir, and Oro Tributo were scratched.
Trained by veteran conditioner B.J. Gilbert and owned by the Valene Farms of Louisiana, Ide Like a Double recorded his second stakes victory and fourth overall win in nine career starts. Bred by the Robkat Racing LLC, he has now earned more than $130,000 lifetime with his $36,000 winner’s share.
Racing continues on a Wednesday thru Saturday schedule with a post time of 6:20 p.m. each evening.
