Independence Chamber of Commerce off to a great start!

The second meeting and membership drive of the Independence Chamber of Commerce took place on Wednesday evening, September 24 at City Hall in Independence. After a four year hiatus, the Chamber is back in full swing, much to the excitement of the business community in Independence. New officers have been installed, and the chamber boasts 22 new members to date.

The 2008 members were presented with membership plaques during the meeting, and four local businesses were acknowledged for their generous contributions to the Chamber.

With a new found excitement and determination, the Chamber has several events slated for the near future. Among them are:

~Independence Town Hall Meeting

October 14, at six p.m. at the Independence City Hall

~Light the Night and Fight Cancer Walk

October 18, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Independence

Luminary bags can be purchased at any downtown business now for $5.50 which includes a candle to insert into your bag. Take bags home, decorate them and bring back the night of the walk. We will also have a Survivor/Memorial board to post a picture and a note to or for loved ones who have dealt with Cancer. Cancer color ribbons, bracelets as well as Luminary bags will be on sale the night of the walk. Totally U Salon will hosts "Locks of Love" beginning now and lasting through the event.

~Halloween in Indy

October 31 at Independence City Hall

Visit our Pumpkin Patch and take pictures with a very special Halloween Guest, trick or treat, purchase a pumpkin to take home, Trick or Treat, Story time with the Independence Library, Costume contest.

~Independence Food Drive

November 1, Food drop location, ICOC office.

~ Veterans Day Celebration

November 8 in Downtown Independence.

~ Town of Independence Christmas Tree Lighting

November 12 at the Independence Train Depot

~ Chamber of Commerce, Indy in the Morning General Meeting

November 26 at Gourmet Soul Restaurant, 485 Railroad Ave.

Guest speakers will be Susan Bigner and Steve Baham, of the Louisiana Economic Development Center.
