Iota High School class of 1942 unite

The Iota High School graduating class of 1942 gathered at Chef Roy’s Frog City Café in Rayne on June 1, 2008, for a class reunion.

Reunion committee members included Ella Bertrand, chairperson; Avery Bertrand, Verna “Lou” Miller, Clark Gray and Joel Pousson.

Classmates in attendance for the mid-day luncheon and gift exchange were Avery Bertrand, Ella Bertrand, Verna “Lou” Miller, Loah Simar, Joel Pousson, Gilton Pousson, J.D. Bertrand, Audrey Pousson, Clark Gray, Belva Burge and Verda Hebert.

Classmates and guests numbered 23, who attended from Rayne, Crowley, Iota, Eunice, Lafayette, Jennings, Scott and Baton Rouge.

Lunch selections included a choice of grilled chicken breast, hamburger steak or fried shrimp with trimmings.

Remembered during the reunion were the 28 of the original 45 classmates now deceased.

Class offices included president Cullen Bernard, vice president Philip Amy, secretary Edith Joy Mayor, all deceased.

The class song was “America,” the class flowers were red and white roses, class colors were red, white and blue, and the class motto was, “Let Democracy Live.”
