Iota knocks off Lake Arthur in summer league tilt
IOTA – The Iota Bulldogs took an early lead and pushed across five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cruise past Lake Arthur, 11-1, Tuesday in the opening game of summer league action for both teams.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of three hits, one walk and an error in left field by Lake Arthur. Garrett Reppond had a two-run double in the frame and Nick Sloane drove in a run on a groundout.
The Tigers answered back with a single run in the top of the fourth inning but that was the extent of their offense for the remainder of the game.
Iota responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame and then added five more in the sixth to seal the victory.
In the fourth, Wyatt Manuel crossed the plate on an error following a double steal and Grant Leonards, who singled, scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Thevis.
Lake Arthur aided in Iota’s five-run fifth inning by walking the bases loaded before another free pass allowed the first run to score. Hunter Daigle and Matt Dubose each drove in a run with a pair of singles before Bray Latiolais scored on a rundown to end the frame.
The Bulldogs used seven different pitchers on the day to limit the Tigers to one run on three hits.
J.T. LeJeune and Austen Montgomery were the most impressive on the mound. LeJeune struck out the side in the fifth inning before giving way to Montgomery, who recorded three straight punch outs in the sixth. Chase Doucet took the mound in the seventh and worked a scoreless frame to end the game.
Reppond paced the Bulldogs’ offense with two hits and a pair of RBI. Doucet also added two hits.
Montgomery and LeJeune each had one hit and one RBI while Daigle, Leonards, Dubose and Kevin Pousson each had one hit. Thevis and Sloane rounded out the offense with an RBI each.
