Iota Lady Dogs crush Mamou; Midland Rebels top Hathaway
IOTA – The Iota Lady Bulldogs shrugged off another below-average shooting performance and cruised to a dominating 83-28 victory over Mamou Friday evening.
The victory sent the Lady Dogs to 23-3 overall and 4-0 in District 5-2A play.
“To not shoot well and still score 83, points...that’s scary,” said Iota coach Stan Baggett, whose team was well below its season average on 3-pointers with three. “But we played great on defense. Our defense is really kicking in and we’re causing a lot of problems for people.”
The Lady Dogs recorded a season-high 21 steals on the night, most of which they turned into easy baskets in transition.
Iota scored 45 points in the first half while limiting the Lady Green Demons to just 13.
The reserves took the court for the majority of the second half and went on to oustcore Mamou 38-15.
Allison Baggett led the Lady Dogs with 17 points, including 10 in the first quarter. Dominiqua Thomas and Taylor Deville also hit double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Adalie Wriborg added nine points; Jillian Boone and Caroline Hebert each scored seven; Anna Lege had five; McKenzie Armand, Mallory Faul and Clarissa Waldrep each had four; Madison Smith and Paige Soirez each had two and Madison Meche had one.
The Lady Dogs return to action Tuesday when they play host to No. 8 Ville Platte at 6 p.m.
