Iota remains atop district standings with victory over Kinder
KINDER – The Iota Lady Bulldogs drained 10 3-pointers and used a strong second half performance to roll past Kinder, 66-41, Tuesday evening.
The victory sent the Lady Dogs to 16-10 on the season and 3-0 in district play.
“The three is a big weapon for us,” said Iota coach Stan Baggett following the contest. “We have been making 14 or 15 (3-pointers) a night. Tonight, we shot 10 of 25, which isn’t great, but that is still like shooting 55 or 60 percent on twos.”
Kinder kept pace with the Lady Dogs early on, trailing just 20-19 heading into the second quarter.
However, Iota went on a 14-2 run to start the second frame behind eight points from Tori Stroderd and took a 34-25 advantage at the half.
The Lady Dogs hit six of their 10 3-point attempts in the second half and went on to outscore Kinder 29-16 in the final two frames.
Stroderd led the Lady Dogs with 19 points and six rebounds. Allison Baggett followed with 16 points and Katelyn Regan had 10 points and seven assists.
Also contributing in the victory were Dominiqua Thomas (9 points, 5 steals, 7 rebounds), Anna Lege (6 points), Candace Sensat (2 points, 5 rebounds) and Adalie Wriborg (1 point).
In the nightcap, Kinder outscored Iota 23-11 in the fourth quarter to take a 62-46 victory over the visiting Bulldogs.
Iota made a game of it until the fourth, trailing by three at the half (25-22) and four (39-35) heading into the final stanza.
Tyler LeBlanc led the Bulldogs with 20 points while Brennan Miller had 14. Brett Broussard, Colby Wickman and Daniel Scott each scored four points.
Iota will be in action again Friday when they play host to Lake Arthur. The girls’ game is slated for 6 o’clock with the boys’ game to follow.
