Jamborees to kickoff 2010 prep season
CROWLEY – For prep football fans, the wait is finally over.
The official start of the 2010 high school season is just over a week away, but local fans will be able to get a quick football fix beginning Thursday when jamborees kickoff across the state.
The Notre Dame Pioneers will be in action on Thursday as well as Church Point and Rayne while Crowley High and Iota will be playing Friday.
Notre Dame’s Pios, the defending Class AAA state champions, will take on Acadiana in the opening game of the Lafayette Kiwanis Jamboree at Cajun Field. That contest is slated for 6 p.m.
Cecilia will take on Lafayette High in the second game followed by coach Brent Indest’s Carencro Bears taking on Teurlings in the nightcap.
Tickets can be purchased at Notre Dame for $8 each. Notre Dame gets to keep all proceeds from tickets purchased at the school.
Also on Thursday, Church Point High will host the first day of the Acadia/Vermilion Parish Jamboree.
Rayne will take on Abbeville in the opener at 6:30 p.m. followed by the host Bears taking on North Vermilion at 8 p.m.
The second day of the Acadia/Vermilion Jamboree will kick off Friday in Kaplan at 5:30 p.m. with the Pirates’ jayvee squad taking on Gueydan.
Crowley High will take the field at 7 o’clock for a contest against Erath. Kaplan’s varsity squad will close out the night with an 8:30 contest against Iota.
Tickets for the Acadia/Vermilion jamboree can be purchased at the participating schools or at the gate the night of the event. All money from tickets sold at the schools will go to the respective schools. All money from tickets purchased at the gate will be split between the participating teams.
