James “Stephen” Prevost
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 22, 2009, at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Rayne, for James “Stephen” Prevost, II, 23,
who passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 12:15 p.m., at his family’s home after his battle with cancer which spanned for more than two years. His battle took him to Indianapolis, Indiana and Seoul, Korea for months of treatment. He fought the disease with courage, and did it with a smile on his face.
Reverend William P. Ruskoski and Reverend Clint Trahan of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Rayne will conduct the funeral services.
James Stephen Prevost was born on February 7, 1986, to James Stephen Prevost and Aileen H. Prevost in Eunice, Louisiana.
Stephen was a ULL student while working in his crawfish pond and lawn care business. Stephen’s favorite pastimes included activities such as hunting and fishing, and when he was not outdoors, he was usually cooking or spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Granger Prevost of Abbeville; his parents, Aileen and Jimmy Prevost of Rayne; sister, Katherine Claire Prevost and brother, John Andrew Prevost, both of Rayne; grandparents, Harold and Louise Prevost, and the late Norma Z. Prevost of Rayne, and Jesse and Mary Harington of Eunice.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Gossen Funeral Home on Thursday, May 21, from 12 noon to 9 p.m., and continue Friday, May 22, from 11 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2009.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Prevost, Mike Prevost, Mark Prevost, Barry Prevost, Jeremy Prevost and Nick Vondenstein.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Leonards, Kevin Jones, Marcus Segura, Tyler Redd, Steven Stuart, Billy Davenport, Tyler Hornsby, Brandon Zaunbrecher, Brandon Meche, Drew McFarlin, Adam Fisher, Daniel Heard and Ryan Miller.
Stephen’s family would like to say thank you to all his friends and family who supported him through his struggle.
Donations may be made to The Cure Stephen Prevost Fund at Rayne State Bank, Acct.# 1266764 to help with medical and travel expenses and to form a scholarship in his name.
