James Charles Young
Crowley- Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at 10:00 AM for James Charles “Charlie” Young, 77, who passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011 at his home in Crowley. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Iota, LA.
Charlie was born December 7, 1933 near Lawtell. He graduated from Lawtell High School in 1951. Upon completion of his high school requirements, Charlie attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (ULL) earning a degree in Education.
Over his forty seven years of employment, Charlie served students as a teacher at Larose Cut-Off (grade 6) for two years, Church Point High School (grade 8) for six years, Rayne High School (grades 7,8, and 9) for six years. In 1973, he was promoted to principal at Mire Elementary, a position he held for 23 years until his retirement in 1996. In 1998, Charlie returned to his calling in the field of education, spending the next ten years as a teacher at Crowley Junior High for three years as well as the Acadia Parish Alternative School, serving two years as a science/agriculture teacher and his last five years as principal.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Patricia Ann Miller Young of Crowley; one son, Neal C. Young and his wife Shannon of Iota; one daughter, Cassie Jules Young Ronkartz and her husband Johann of Rayne; six grandchildren: Carter Nicholas Young, Hayden Emily Young, Avery Elise Young, Addison Paige Young, Elin Brooke Young and Jules Lillian Ronkartz; one sister, Angie Young Duplechien and her husband Hilton of Lafayette; two brothers: Warren Young and his wife Melba of Chatagnier and Willie Young and his wife Betty of Franklin.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Neal Young and Lorena Wyble Young.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. William Guillory, Dr. Patrick Welsch, Dr. Patrick Griffith, Dr. Juan Zeik, Mrs. Mandy Benoit and Heart of Hospice for the care they provided.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and continue Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to the time of services. A rosary will be recited Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will include his nephews David Duplechien, Randy Duplechien, Michael Young, Kevin McNemare, Todd Miller and Chad Clement. Honorary pallbearers will include his brothers Warren Young and Willie Young; and his brothers-in-law Hilton Duplechien and Vernon Miller.
