James "Merlin" Fruge, age 69, of Eunice, La., died Sunday, October 12, 2008, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, La.
Fruge was a 1957 graduate of Eunice High.
He served as an Air Force radar operator from 1957 until his honorable discharge on March 17, 1961.
Fruge returned to Eunice and began working for the oil industry. He married Katherine Marie Wayne on November 3, 1962.
During their marriage Merlin worked in the offshore drilling industry and retired from thatwork in 1994, at the age of 55 years.
Survivors include his wife Katherine W. Fruge of Eunice;Two Daughters, Toni F. Powley & husband Tim of Austin, Texas, Rebecca F. Adamson of Austin, Texas; two granddaughters, Chez Colter and Olivia Adamson, and one godchild, David Lee Jacobs.
Preceded in death by: Parents, Artelus & Amelia Ardoin Fruge; Brother, Ferrel Fruge.
Merlin was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma on February 16, 2001. Donations can be made to the Lymphoma Society in his name.
Pallbearers will be Tim Powley, Don Owen, Don Gilchrest, Ova Cormier, Clifford "Gola" Lintzen, and Jack Dardeau. Honorary pall bearers will be Leroy Vige, Shelton Guillory, David Lee Jacobs, Clarence Jacobs, Paul "Slim" Washington, and Bill Thompson.
Visitation at Quirk & Son is from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM Tuesday, October 14, 2008 with a rosary at 7 PM. Reopen at 8 AM Wed.
Funeral service will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 15, 2008. Entombment to follow at St. Paul Mausoleum.
