Jason Lopez promoted to Army captain
FORT BRAGG, NC - Rayne-native Jason W. Lopez was promoted to the rank of Captain in the United States Army during ceremonies held here on October 31, 2008.
Lopez, a 1997 graduate of Rayne High School, received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 2001.
He enlisted in the Army in December 2004 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Armor upon completion of Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, GA as the Distinguished Military Graduate of Class 07-05.
He has been assigned to Bravo and Headquarters, Headquarters Troop, 3 -73 Cavalry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division for the last three years.
Captain Lopez has successfully completed Maneuver Officer Basic Course, Scout Platoon Leader’s Course, Basic Airborne Course, Re-connaissance and Surveillance Leader’s Course and Air Movement Operations course during his career.
He deployed for two months in early 2007 to train security forces in Camp Zarqa, Jordan, and recently returned from a 14-month tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as an Airborne Scout Platoon Leader and Cavalry Troop Executive Officer in Central Iraq.
During his deployment to OIF, Captain Lopez was awarded the Bronze Star for Exceptionally Meritorious Service and the Combat Action Badge for actively engaging or being engaged by the enemy and performing satisfactorily in accordance with the prescribed rules of engagement.
In addition to the BSM and CAB, Captain Lopez has also earned the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
Captain Lopez will next attend the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course in Fort Knox, KY beginning in January 2009.
Jason is married to the former Nicole Dabbs of Thibodeaux and the couple has two children, Landri, 4, and Jack, 2. He is the son of Ronald and Trish Lopez of Scott, LA and the grandson of Willard and Janelle Pousson of Rayne.
