Jeff Davis Parish Library group arrives in Nashville

Rhoda Marsh, Danielle Manuel, Kitty Marsh, Sandy Suydam and Iris Hollier will be representing Jefferson Davis Parish at the 2009 Public Libraries Association Spring Symposium April 2-4, 2009 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The entire trip is being sponsored by the Gulf Coast Library Project via a scholarship for each participant to include: registration for the conference, meals and flights to Nashville.

The programs to be offered allow for in-depth exploration on topics relevant to public libraries, librarians and staff members. Workshop sessions include: Everyday Library Ethics: How the Right Thing is the Better Thing for Your Library and Community, Service Responses: Selecting and Implementing the Right Mix for Your Library, Silk Purses and Sow’s Ears: Assessing the Quality of Public Library Statistics and Making the Most of Them, Today’s Library: From the Inside Out, Libraries Connect in the 21st Century, Current Issues in Libraries and Turning the Page: Building Your Library Community.

“In times such as these where there are constant reminders at the state and federal level of budget cuts, it is refreshing to have a project that offers an opportunity of this type to our employees,” said Dr. Linda LeBert-Corbello, Jeff Davis Parish Library Director. “All five participants are eager to represent our library system.

“They are also eager to learn more so they will be empowered to serve the patrons of Jefferson Davis Parish. I personally am grateful that the opportunity is offered by on a scholarship basis by Lyrasis’ Gulf Coast Libraries Project for the Institute of Museums and Library Services.”
