Jennings cruises past Gators
JENNINGS – The Crowley Gators fell to 0-2 in Junior American action Monday, dropping a 17-4 five-inning contest to Jennings at Bulldog Stadium.
The Gators actually jumped out in front 2-0 in the top of the first inning on a RBI single by Keagan Deaville and a RBI double by Chris Trosclair.
Jennings answered in the bottom of the frame with four runs before taking a 6-2 advantage after three innings.
The wheels fell off for the locals in the bottom of the third when Jennings scored nine runs on eight hits and two errors. The Bulldogs sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning.
Crowley scored its final two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Evan Cart started things off by reaching base on an error and Billy Wartelle followed with a walk. Deaville then recorded his second hit of the game, a double to left, to plate both Cart and Wartelle.
Jennings followed with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning before holding Crowley scoreless in the top of the fifth to end the game via the mercy-rule.
Deaville had two of Crowley’s three hits on the night while Trosclair had the other.
Bryson Abraham led Jennings’ 13-hit attack with three singles and two RBI. Kollan Richard and Travis Legros each had two hits and two RBI while Cody Helmick was 2-for-2 with a double and a home run.
The Gators took on Eunice last night but results were not available at press time.
