Joanne Bernadette Martin weds Hunter John Heinen

A Nuptial Mass on Friday, November 20, 2009 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Roberts Cove united Joanne Bernadette Martin and Hunter John Heinen in holy matrimony. The seven o’clock evening ceremony was celebrated by Father Kevin Bordelon.

The bride is the daughter of John and Bernie Martin of Mire. Her grandparents are Odette Martin and the late Wilton Martin of Rayne and Nunilon Reyes and the late Virginia Reyes of Manila, Philippines. She is a 2006 graduate of Rayne High School, a 2009 graduate of Louisiana State University at Eunice where she majored and obtained a degree in nursing, and is employed as a registered nurse at Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Lafayette in the labor and delivery unit.

The groom is the son of Phillip and Saundra Heinen of Roberts Cove. His grandparents are Johnny and Jeanette Heinen, Jr. of Roberts Cove, and Flo Bourque and the late John C. Bourque of Rayne. He is a 2005 graduate of Rayne High School and is employed on the family farm where he is a fifth generation farmer in Roberts Cove.

Guests were ushered to their seats by Wilton Marks, cousin of the bride, and Brandon Meche, friend of the groom.

Musical selections were provided by Ellen Baggett and Amy Whatley.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore an elegant strapless chapel-length pick-up ball gown in white taffeta completed with intricate beaded metallic embroidered lace on the bodice and skirt. Her head piece was a sheer illusion fingertip veil with beaded edges held by a comb of pearls and rhinestones. She carried a bouquet of hand tied calla lilies, white roses, and hydrangeas with black berries and curly willow. Intertwined in the bouquet, the bride carried the rosary of her late aunt, Carolyn Martin.

Serving as maid of honor was Skye Simon, friend of the bride. Matron of honor was Jamie Mire, cousin of the bride. Bridesmaids were Courtney Elkins, friend of the bride, and Claire Guilbeaux, cousin of the bride.

Bridal attendants each wore an identical floor length strapless black satin ball gown with a criss-cross ruched bust and beading. They also carried identical hand-tied bouquets of calla lilies, white roses, and hydrangeas intertwined with black berries and curly willow.

Serving as the flower girl was Kaelyn Mire, godchild of the bride. She wore a spaghetti strap ball gown in white taffeta completed with a beaded lace appliqué bodice and a faux basque waist detail. The pick up skirt complimented the bride’s gown. She carried a hand tied bouquet of calla lilies, white roses, and hydrangeas with black berries and curly willow to complement the bride’s bouquet.

Serving his brother as best man was Heath Heinen. Groomsmen were Christopher Bourque, cousin of the groom; Jake Martin, brother of the bride; and Scott Lopez, friend of the groom.

Ring bearer was Connor Walker, godchild of the groom.

Male attendants donned formal black tuxedos.

Scriptures were recited for the ceremony by Lacey Mouton, cousin of the bride, and Renee Hollier, aunt of the groom. Gifts were offered by John Bourque, godfather of the groom, and Cindy Martin, aunt of the bride. In addition to Father Bordelon, serving as a Eucharistic Minister was Blane Heinen, uncle of the groom. Assisting as the altar server was Grace Ann Hanley, cousin of the groom.

Immediately following the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds were honored during a reception held at The Ballroom in Crowley.

Among the refreshments provided for the guests in attendance was the bride’s cake, a three-tier white round confection accented with small beading cascading over the edges of each tier. The creation was wrapped with black satin ribbon at the base and a small bouquet adorned the top tier. The cake was served by the bride’s aunt, Cindy Martin.

The groom’s cake was a two tier chocolate confection on which three beer cans separated the two tiers in a column-like manner. The cake featured chocolate accents topped with chocolate covered strawberries and was served by the groom’s godmother, Clare Walker.

Following a wedding trip to San Antonio, Texas, the couple will reside in Roberts Cove.

Prior to the wedding, the couple’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner on Thursday, Nov. 19, at St. Leo Catholic Church Hall.
