John Aemilien Richard
Branch—A Mass of Christian Burial for John Aemilien Richard, 65, of Branch will be celebrated on Friday, September 20, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Edmund Catholic Church, Branch. Father John Huckaby will serve as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Edmund Catholic Cemetery, Branch.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. in Duhon Funeral Home, Church Point, with a rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
Mr. Richard passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 10:38 a.m. in an Opelousas hospital.
A resident of Branch for 39 years, Mr. Richard was a member of St. Edmund Catholic Church. He retired from Acadia Parish Police Jury as a supervisor in the Parish Barn.
Mr. Richard enjoyed camping, fishing, motorcycle riding, and cooking for his family and friends. He loved his dogs, and cared for them as his children. Mr. Richard was a gift to his nieces and nephews, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Maida Fontenot Richard of Branch; sister, Australia Comeaux and husband, John, of Opelousas; sisters-in-law, Martha Richard of Opelousas, and Frankie Thibodeaux and husband, Rodney, of Branch; brother-in-law, Dave Fontenot of Branch; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Mr. Richard in death were his parents, Aldia and Hample Savoie Richard; sister, Gloria Richard; brothers, Floyd Richard, Hendrick Richard, and Aaron Richard; and sister-in-law, Janell Thibodeaux.
