John Allen Sonnier
GUEYDAN - The family and friends of John Allen Sonnier are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life and into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, June 30th while in the comfort of his home in Morse surrounded by his beloved family. He was 65. Funeral services will be held in his honor at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Gueydan, LA on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Burial with military honors will be in the Hanks Cemetery. Father Clint Trahan will officiate.
John Allen was born in Gueydan, LA to the late Alcie Sonnier and the late Adia LaPointe Sonnier on May 25, 1948. After attending school, John joined the military to serve his country in the United States Army. Upon his return home, he worked as an engineer on a supply boat until his retirement. John was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, frogging, and catching turtles. He also enjoyed cooking and carpentry work. John lived each day to the fullest to love and care for his family. His presence in all of their lives will never be forgotten.
John is survived by his four sons, David A. Sonnier (Chasity) of Florida, Jack L. Trahan (Christella) of Gueydan, Jeremy L. Trahan (Donna) also of Gueydan, and Jacob A. Lege (Amanda) of Illinois; two daughters, Kellie D. Sonnier of Crowley and Teri D. Lege (fiancé, Chance) of Lake Charles; his two brothers, James Dubois of Baytown, TX and Alex Sonnier of San Antonio, TX; one sister, Jeanne Reagan of Jennings; and his 29 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Alcie and Adia L. Sonnier; one daughter, Natalie Sonnier Feverjean; and his two brothers.
A gathering of John’s family and friends will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Monday, July 1st from 5:30 PM until the time of his funeral services on Tuesday at 2:00 PM. A rosary will be recited on Monday evening at 7:00 PM.
