John Lewis Stelly
Arnaudville – Funeral services were held Monday, March 17, 2008, at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Regis Catholic Church for John Lewis Stelly, 64, who passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 11:55 a.m. at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment was in St. Francis Regis Cemetery. The Rev. Bryan Taylor officiate at the services. The readers were Hobie Artigue and Nicole Andrepont. The giftbearers were Brandon Stelly, Greg Stelly, Hailee LaGrange and Natalie Berzas.
Musical selections were provided by Addie & Prentiss Miller.
Mr. Stelly was a native of Port Barre and a resident of Arnaudville where he lived most of his life. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville. He was employed with Fruit of the Loom for 28 years. Mr. Stelly was an avid hunter and a member of the Hi-Lo Hunting Club in Farmerville. He loved fishing with his son and son-in-law and spending time with his grandsons.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Beatrice Devillier Stelly of Arnaudville; three sons, Tommy Stelly and his wife Fannie of Arnaudville, Michael Stelly and his wife Annette of Abbeville, and Jimmy Lagrange of Arnaudville; one daughter, Jennifer LaGrange Artigue and her husband Bryan of Arnaudville; one sister, Susan Miller and her husband Russell of Port Barre; six grandchildren, Hobie Artigue, Brandon Stelly, Marcus Stelly, Greg Stelly, Hailee LaGrange and Paul “Gunner” Durousseau; and two great-grandchildren, Geneice Stelly and Alyssa Stelly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Stelly and the former, Deneige Zeringue; and one brother, E.J. Stelly.
A rosary was prayed by Barbara Hebert at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Tommy Stelly, Michael Stelly, Bryan Artigue, Russell Miller, David Miller and Warren Poirer.
