Joseph Durlin “J.D.” Miller
IOTA - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Iota for Joseph Durlin “J.D.” Miller, 86, who died Friday, April 26, 2013 at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Mr. “J. D.” was a native and lifelong resident of Iota. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as an usher for 60 years. He drove a school bus for Acadia Parish School Board for twenty-five years along with being manager of the Texaco bulk plant (Bossley Oil Co.) in Iota.
Fr. Mikel Polson, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ella Mae Cormier Miller of Iota; one daughter, Cindy Miller Abshire and her husband Danny of Iota; three sons, Ronnie Miller and his wife Bobbie of Mowata, Reggie Miller and his wife Mary Beth of Iota, Pat Miller and his wife Debbie of Crowley; fifteen grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister-in-law, Genevieve Miller of Iota; three nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Martha Daigle Miller; two brothers, Willard and Kirby Miller.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Miller’s five grandsons,Blaine Miller, Brent Miller, Jason Miller, Chad Abshire, Hunter Miller, along with his nephew, Marcus Miller. Honorary pallbearer will be Jimmy Reed.
The family wishes to thank Jude Sittig and his entire staff of Southwind Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their care of Mr. Miller these past 7 months.
