Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at a 10:30 AM Catholic Service in Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Scott for Joseph Gerald Thomas, 66, who died on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Camelot Place Nursing Home in Rayne.


Interment will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.


Reverend Louis Allen Breaux, Pastor of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, will officiate the services. Stephanie Hoffpauir, organist and vocalist, will sing for the services, "Amazing Grace," "How Great Thou Art," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "You Raise Me Up."


He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Stephen J. Thomas of Mandeville, LA; his step-father, Stephen (Nook) Higginbotham of Lafayette, LA; one brother, Danny D. Thomas and his wife, Celsa of New Albany, IN; one sister, Karen Granger and her husband, O'Neil of Scott, LA; one step-sister, Earline Bower; three nieces, Mia Begnaud, Laura Granger and Michelle Thomas; one nephew, Kyle Thomas; two step-nieces, Tonya and Dawn; one step-nephew, Chad; one uncle, Justin Guilbeau; and one aunt, Mary Lee Haywood; and numerous cousins.


He was preceded in death by his mother, Ena Doucet Higginbotham; and his father, Forrest Thomas.


Joseph Gerald Thomas was born on August 13, 1946 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He graduated from the third graduating class of Carencro High School. Mr. Thomas proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy, serving as a Naval Intelligence Officer and communication specialist, stationed in Hawaii during the Vietnam Era. He worked for many years at Baker Hughes before his retirement in 2008, and went on to work at the Lafayette Auto Auction until 2011. He loved gardening and spending time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.  


A Rosary will be recited by Glenn Faul on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille's SCOTT Location.


The family requests that visitation be observed on Monday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until time of services.


Stephen would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of Heart of Hospice, Camelot Place Nursing Home and Rayne Guest House for their kindness, compassion and care.


Joseph would like to thank the mother of his only son, Lawanda Thomas Norris and his husband-in-law, Terry Norris for their care and comfort extended to him during his time of need.
