Joseph sentenced to 10 years
Ricky Joseph, 32, of Ville Platte, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Judge Tom Fuselier December 18.
Joseph operated a barber shop at 1211 W. Hickory St., Ville Platte. After securing a search warrant, Ville Platte Police Department located numerous drugs within his barber shop and charged Joseph with multiple drug violations.
Joseph was sentenced to eight years at hard labor on the charge of possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics. On the charge of possession of Schedule II narcotics, he received an additional two-year sentence to run consecutively. On the charge of possession of Schedule III controlled dangerous substances, he received two years at hard labor to run concurrent and on the count of possession of Scheduled I controlled dangerous substance, he received a six month sentence in the parish jail to run concurrent.
The first two years of Joseph’s sentence are to run without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
District Attorney Brent Coreil commended the Ville Platte Police Department on their excellent work in taking a serious drug dealer off the streets.
Assistant District Attorney Kathy Meyers represented the state. Attorney Kelly Tate represented the defendant, Joseph, in the proceedings.
