Junior Oilers fall to Moss Bluff

MOSS BLUFF - The Eunice Junior Oilers dropped a 4-3 decision to Moss Bluff here Monday night in District Seven Junior American Legion Baseball action.
Moss Bluff scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning to break and 3-3 tie as the Junior Oilers fell to 4-6 in district play.
The Oilers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Moss Bluff starting pitcher Justin Dufrene. With one out, Alex Lee reached safely on a wild pitch after striking out. Lee would score on a triple by Tyler Fontenot. Fontenot later scored on a wild pitch.
Moss Bluff cut the Eunice lead to 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Austin Guillory doubled and stole third off Eunice starting pitcher Jonathan Tucker. After Billy Sommers drew a walk, Moss Bluff pulled off a double steal which allowed Guillory to score.
In the third, Moss Bluff scored twice to take a 3-2 advantage. Chase Terrell singled to open the inning and Brad Lunn drew a walk. Darren Landry singled in Terrell and Lunn would score on a sacrifice fly by Guillory.
Eunice tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the top of the fourth. Connor Cortina singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Landon Marcantel reached second when Cortina was erased on a fielder’s choice. Marcantel advanced to third on a passed ball, and later scored on a ground out.
Moss Bluff regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Landry reached second base on an error, advanced to third on Guillory’s single, and scored on a ground out.
Tucker pitched four innings for Eunice, allowing six hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out two. Matthew Bari, who suffered the loss, worked two hits, allowing two hits and one unearned run. He walked two and struck out one.
Landry picked up the mound win in relief for Moss Bluff. He pitched no-hit, shutout ball over the final three innings, walking two and striking out two.
Tyler Fontenot had a triple and a double to lead Eunice on offense. Alex Comeaux added a double and a single for the Junior Oilers.
Terrell and Guillory had two hits apiece to lead Moss Bluff.
In non-district action on Saturday, the Junior Oilers dropped an 8-5 decision to young players of the Opelousas Indians.
Tyler Fontenot, Cortina, and Brett Baldwin led Eunice on offense with two hits apiece.
