Junior Oilers start off season with 13-run shutout

The Eunice Junior Oilers began their season Wednesday night with a 13-0 victory over Jiffy Lube of Lake Charles at the Eunice High School diamond.
The Junior Oilers rapped out 13 hits against Jiffy Lube pitching, while three Eunice pitchers combined to limit Jiffy Lube to only two hits.
Zac Person started on the mound for Eunice, working two innings. Person allowed two hits, walked three, and fanned four.
Jonathan Tucker relieved Person. Tucker worked two innings, walking one and striking out two. Matthew Bari worked the final inning, retiring the side in order and recording one strikeout.
Jiffy Lube, based at Washington-Marion High School, got singles from Kevin Fontenot and Eric Braxton.
Eunice scored runs in every inning against three Jiffy Lube pitchers. Quincy Crawford suffered the loss for Jiffy Lube.
Eunice scored six runs in the bottom of the first to take control of the game.
In that first inning, Jacob Fontenot reached on an error and moved to second base on a single by Tyler Fontenot. A wild pitch allowed the first run to score.
After Trent Vidrine drew a walk, another wild pitch gave the Junior Oilers a 2-0 lead. Alex Comeaux drew a walk and Person drove in a run with an infield single. A wild pitch, a passed ball and a double steal led to three more runs before Landon Marcantel doubled in the final run of the inning.
In the second inning, Eunice added four runs to take a 10-0 lead. Following walks to Tyler Fontenot and Vidrine, Person delivered a run-scoring single and Alex Lee drew a bases-loaded walk for another run. The final two runs of the inning scored on a two-run single by Tucker.
In the third inning, the Oilers plated two more runs on RBI singles by Tyler Fontenot and Comeaux. Jacob Fontenot’s run-scoring single produced the Junior Oilers’ final run in the fourth inning.
Jacob Fontenot, Tyler Fontenot, and Person each collected two hits to lead Eunice. Marcantel had a double, while Comeaux, Tucker, Bari, Lathan Prudhomme, Brandon Baquet, and Lane David added singles as the Junior Oilers banged out 13 hits.
The Junior Oilers will see their next action on Monday when they play host to Rayne in a 6:30 p.m. start at the Eunice High School Field.
On Wednesday, the Junior Oilers are scheduled to travel to take Notre Dame in a 6:30 start at Miller Field in Crowley.
