Jurors OK road striping, signing projects in brief special meeting

In a special called 8 a.m. meeting, members of the Acadia Parish Police Jury took less than two minutes Thursday to finalize road paving and road signage projects which go back to 2006.

The early morning session was necessary after representatives of the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) required the Jury to adopt specific resolutions authorizing the Jury president to sign all documents this week. If jurors had delayed formal action until next week, state funds would not have been released until next spring.

The Jury’s staff said the two resolutions would be delivered overnight by Federal Express as well as copies faxed to DOTD.

Funding for road striping and road signs will come from the Local Road Safety Program.

Striping of parish roads, such as Standard Mill, Ebenezer and Quarter Pole, is projected at $226,174, not to exceed $360.000. Work on the contract with Highway Graphics, Inc. of West Monroe is expected to begin in October.

The contract to replace and inventory road signs throughout the parish is projected at $175,000. Traffic Solutions, Inc. of Hammond is also expected to begin work in October.
