Kaplan begins recycling program
Mayor Linda Hardee is excited to announce to the residents of Kaplan that the city is doing their part in “going green”.
Two recycling bins have been placed in the Kaplan City Yard located at 412 South Herpin. (Entrance gate to the yard is on Amy Street).
“The Police Jury was kind enough to put the two bins in the city limits,” said the mayor. “Now we can all do our part to keep our city green.”
Drop offs may be made from 7 a.m. to 3 .m. Monday through Friday.
Accepted recycle materials are newspapers, cardboards, aluminum cans, plastics, magazines, glass (all colors), steel or tin cans.
These materials need not be separated.
The pickup for the recycled materials will be on Wednesdays after 10 a.m.
The Vermilion Parish Police Jury has attempted to establish a larger recycling population by adding four new recycling drop off centers throughout the parish.
With the new centers being closer to city residents, they hope this will help these people that wish to recycle in their area.
For out of town Kaplan residents, the bins will be located at the Police Jury Barn #4 on Gladue Road. Gueydan area bins will be located at Police Jury Barn #3 on Hwy 14 between Wright and Gueydan.
Tires are also recycled on a daily basis at the Solid Waste Landfill only. Each resident may bring five tires per day with their driver’s license.
Recycled materials may be dropped off at the landfill seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A large dumpster is now provided at the gate for easy collection of recyclables only after hours.
