Katherine “Katie” Walker Rainey
CROWLEY – Katherine “Katie” Walker Rainey, 93, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday afternoon, July 26, 2009.
The daughter of Edward F. Walker and Katherine Hochenedel Walker of New Orleans, Katie was born in Baton Rouge on February 10, 1916. She grew up in New Orleans and upon her graduation from high school, she attended Louisiana State University where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She graduated from LSU in 1937 with a BA degree in elementary education.
On September 8, 1951, she married Hugh Douglas Rainey, and the couple made their home in Crowley. For the next thirty years she was a devoted 5th grade teacher in both the Crowley public schools and St. Michael Elementary School. A member of First United Pentecostal Church, she was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at First United Pentecostal Church, Egan Highway, Crowley. A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park in Baton Rouge.
