LaCombe return sparks McNeese victory over Norfolk
LAKE CHARLES – McNeese State’s Sophomore Candace LaCombe returned to the court Wednesday after missing the last 10 games due to an injury and scored a game high 18 points in the Cowgirls’ 68-55 win over Norfolk State.
The game snapped a four game losing streak and improved the Cowgirls to 4-8 on the year. Norfolk State fell to 2-7 on the year.
“We had a really good team effort tonight, maybe our best of the season as a unit,” said head coach Brooks Donald Williams.
LaCombe, an Iota native who transferred to McNeese at the beginning of the year from LSU-Eunice, was 5 of 17 from the field with all five baskets coming from three-point range. LaCombe also ended the game with five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
“We are all glad to have Candace back. It was a nice spark for our girls tonight. She plays with so much confidence and she sets the tone for the team.
The Cowgirls also had two other double figures with Kiara Johnson ending the game with 16, after being held to two points in the first half. Kendra Wells recorded her third double-double of the season and her sixth career with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
“I was pleased to see playmakers out there tonight. We had several girls set up player so they could score.
