Ladies prepare for district volleyball action

The Lady Wolves have been busy on and off the road, pushing their overall record to 12-6 mid-way through the 2012 volleyball season.
“It’s been an up and down season all the way through,” states Rayne High Coach Stephanie Garrett of her young Lady Wolves. “It looks like we imitate our opponents. If they play a well-structured match, we do. If they play a hit and miss match, we are caught off-guard because we are so accustomed in playing a structured game.”
Garret continues, “I think once we get our offense running smoother and keep our heads in the game, we should have a run for the district title.”
The Lady Wolves participated in the Jennings Tournament over the weekend, claiming a 3-1 pool play record, but coming up just short to advance to the finals as determined by points scored.
Rayne opened tournament actionwith a two-set win over Church Point. Leading stats were Erin LeBlanc 1 assist, 3 aces, 1 dig; Katelyn LeDoux 1 kill, 1 assist, 3 aces; Madeline Savoy 5 kills, 7 assists; Mia Guidry 2 kills, 4 assists, 1 ace; Niesha Domingue 2 kills, 1 block, 1 ace, 1 dig.
In their second round of pool play, they fell to Northside Christian in a three-set match. Leading Rayne stats were Madeline Savoy 7 kills, 9 assists, 1 dig; Niesha Domingue 6 kills, 3 blocks, 1 assist, 1 ace, 1 dig; Taylor Arceneaux 5 kills, 3 blocks, 1 dig; Katie Benoit 2 kills, 1 dig.
In Rayne’s two-set win over Hamilton Christian, Lady Wolf leaders were Amanda Bourque 3 kills, 3 aces, 2 digs; Niesha Domingue 6 kills, 1 dig; Sidney Fontenot 3 kills, 1 dig; Taylor Arceneaux 6 kills.
In final pool play, the Lady Wolves collected a come from behind win over Carencro. Rayne High leaders for the win were Amanda Bourque 4 kills, 1 assist, 2 digs; Madeline Savoy 4 kills, 12 assists, 4 digs; Niesha Domingue 4 kills, 1 ace; Taylor Arceneaux 11 kills, 3 blocks, 2 digs.
With only the top two teams coming out of the two pools for final play, Rayne fell just short due to points scored.
On Wednesday, Sept. 19, the Lady Wolves hosted Breaux Bridge and fell to the Lady Dogs in four sets (11-25, 25-22, 15-25, 18-25).
Rayne stat leaders were Amanda Bourque 2 kills, 2 blocks, 3 aces; Erin Leblanc 2 kills, 5 assists; Madeline Savoy 2 kills, 5 assists, 1 ace; Mia Guidry 6 assists, 1 ace, 1 dig; Niesha Domingue 4 kills, 1 ace; Taylor Arceneaux 3 kills, 4 blocks, 2 aces; Katie Benoit 7 kills, 2 aces; Layni Boudreaux 2 kills, 1 block, 1 assist and 1 dig.
On Thursday, Sept. 20, the Lady Wolves needed five sets to claim a win over Carencro (22-25, 25-15, 25-27, 25-17 and 15-12).
Leading the way for the win over the Lady Bears were Amanda Bourque 6 kills, 1 ace, 1 dig; Erin LeBlanc 2 kills, 4 assists, 2 aces, 1 dig; Madeline Savoy 8 kills, 23 assists, 1 ace; Mia Guidry 3 assists, 1 ace, 3 digs; Niesha Domingue 11 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace; Taylor Arceneaux 7 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces; Katie Benoit 5 kills, 1 block, 1 assist, 1 ace.
The Lady Wolves will participate in the Northside Tournament for freshmen and junior varsity teams this weekend.
They will hit the road next week traveling to Comeaux Tuesday, Oct. 2nd.
Their district season begins Thursday, Oct. 4, as they travel to Crowley High.
