Lady Cats end 2008 with a win in Sulphur Tournament

SULPHUR – The Eunice High Lady Cats ended the year with a 45-34 win over South Cameron following two losses in the Sulphur Tournament.
Hamilton Christian Academy scored a 44-33 win over the Lady Cats on Monday after closing the first half of the game with a tie.
The Lady Warriors came out strong in the third quarter, led by Dorian Biddle with three field goals and a trey, to take a six-point lead over Eunice by the quarter’s end.
Hamilton Christian expanded on their lead in the final quarter.
Eunice’s Heather Thomas led the game in scoring with 20 points, including eight out of 12 free throws.
Biddle led Hamilton Christian in scoring with 15 points, followed by Clissa Green with 13 points.
On Tuesday, Oberlin stormed its way to a 58-48 victory over the Lady Cats.
Leading 27-21 at the end of the first half, the Lady Tigers faced a reinvigorated Lady Cat team at the start of the third stanza, with Eunice outscoring Oberlin 14-10 over the course of the quarter and narrowing the Lady Tigers’ lead to two points.
But Oberlin came back in the final round, scoring 21 points while limiting Eunice to a 13-point gain.
Marquita Boulden led the game in scoring, picking up 22 points for the Lady Tigers; Logan Fuselier chipped in 19 points to Oberlin’s total.
Thomas led Eunice in scoring with 18 points, followed by Tia Janice with eight points.
Eunice’s New Year’s Eve win came after trailing South Cameron for much of the game.
After closing the first half with a four-point deficit, the Lady Cats came back in the third quarter, scoring 12 points while limiting the Lady Tarpons to only five points.
Opening the final quarter with a three-point lead, the Lady Cats, led by Thomas with four buckets, outscored South Cameron 15-7 for the win.
Lady Tarpon Shelby Willis led the game in scoring with 20 points; Becka Richard contributed seven points towards South Cameron’s total.
Thomas led Eunice in scoring with 16 points, followed by Janice with 11.
On Tuesday, the Lady Cats will host the Beau Chene Lady Gators at approximately 6:15 p.m.; Eunice begins district play against Washington-Marion at home on Jan. 13.
