Lady Dogs advance to title game
MIDLAND – Iota’s Allison Baggett and Ashley Hargrave combined for 29 points Monday to help propel the Lady Dogs past Kinder, 61-52, and into the finals of the MHS Holiday Spectacular.
The Lady Dogs (16-5) took on tournament host Midland last night in the title game, but results of that game were not available at press time.
Baggett scored six of her team-high 16 points in the first half to help give Iota a 31-30 advantage at the break.
Kinder hung around in the second half, trailing just 50-48 heading into the fourth quarter.
Hargrave, scored six straight points in fourth to give Iota a 56-52 advantage and the Lady Dogs held Kinder scoreless during the final four minutes for the victory.
Hargrave followed Baggett with 13 points and Jade LeJeune added nine.
Also contributing in the victory were Anna Lege with eight points; Tori Stroderd with seven and Katie Latiola with six.
Kinder’s Briana Harmon led all scorers with 24 points.
Kinder took on Church Point in the third place game late yesterday.
In other girls’ action, Notre Dame cruised into the consolation finals against Rayne with a 54-34 victory over Opelousas Catholic.
The Lady Pios (9-4) took a commanding 19-2 lead in the first quarter behind eight points from Celia Charles.
Notre Dame kept up the pace in the second frame, taking a 37-11 lead into the intermission.
Taylor Simon scored eight of her game-high 15 points in the third quarter to help give Notre Dame a 51-26 advantage before the Lady Vikings outscored the Lady Pios 8-3 in the final eight minutes.
Charles followed Simon with 14 points and Chelsea Meaux scored eight.
Alex Boulet and Emily Vidrine each pitched in four points; Mallory Chassion scored three and Peyton Miller, Andre Lyons and Caroline Stewart each scored two.
