Lady Dogs cruise past Midland
MIDLAND – The Iota Lady Bulldogs ended a two-game slide Tuesday, topping Midland’s Lady Rebels 56-28.
The Lady Dogs (9-8), coming off a 1-2 showing in the St. Louis Tournament over the weekend, jumped out to a 19-8 lead at the break before pouring in 25 points in the third frame.
Iota drained eight 3-pointers in the first 10 minutes of the second half to extend their advantage to 50-20 before the reserves hit the court to finish out the fourth quarter.
Allison Baggett led the Lady Dogs with five 3-pointers and finished the night with a game-high 21 points.
Baggett was followed by Tori Stroderd with 14 points and Katelyn Regan with nine. Anna Lege added eight points while Dominiqua Thomas and Bree Trumps finished with two points each.
Courtney LeJeune paced the Lady Rebels (7-13) with 10 points. Melody Hebert chipped in six points; Haley Guidry scored five; Carisa Richard, Hannah Fremaux and Katie Woods each scored two and Katie Primeaux finished with one.
In the nightcap, the Midland Rebels rebounded from a slow start to ease past Iota, 69-47.
Midland improved to 16-3 with the victory. Iota fell to 7-7.
Iota gave the Rebels all they could handle in the first half, leading by as many as three midway through the second quarter before entering the half down by four (29-25).
Midland broke the game open in the third quarter, going on a 9-0 run in the first two minutes en route to taking a 53-34 advantage at the end of the frame.
Midland outscored Iota 16-13 in the final eight minutes.
Miles Prejean and B.J. Cormier led all scorers with 23 points each. Andrew Hains followed with 12 points, Allen Fontenot scored nine and Michael Vincent score two.
Johnny Guidry and Tyler LeBlanc each scored 12 points for Iota while Brennan Miller added eight and Colby Wickman had seven. Brett Broussard and Daniel Scott rounded out the Bulldogs’ scoring with four points each.
