Lady Dogs cruise past Oakdale on Senior Night
IOTA – The Iota Lady Bulldogs closed out their regular-season home slate Friday with a dominating 73-28 victory over Oakdale on Senior Night.
The Lady Dogs improved to 28-3 overall and 8-0 in District 5-2A play with the victory.
“The first four minutes of the game, we didn’t play real well, but after that, we got going,” said Iota coach Stan Baggett, whose squad went 26-for-52 from the field and 9-for-20 from beyond the 3-point line on the night. “We shot well tonight. The last four games we kind of struggled shooting, but tonight, it just all came together.”
The Lady Dogs scored just 15 points in the first quarter but they exploded for 26 in the second frame to build an insurmountable 41-14 advantage.
“We had seven turnovers early in the first quarter and I was a little disappointed in that,” said Baggett. “That’s a lot for us. But after that, we settled down and started clicking.”
The Lady Dogs kept up the pressure in the third quarter and outscored the Lady Warriors 15-5 despite taking the senior starters out midway through the period.
Iota’s reserves played the entire fourth quarter and fared just as well, outscoring Oakdale 17-9.
Allison Baggett paced the Lady Dogs with 16 points and eight blocks. Dominiqua Thomas followed with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Adalie Wriborg and Anna Leger pitched in eight points each and McKenzie Armand and Taylor Deville each had seven.
Also contributing in the victory were Caroline Hebert with four points; Paige Soirrez, three; Clarissa Waldrep, Kate Lege and Brittany Johnson, two and Sydney Hebert, one.
The Lady Dogs return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Mamou for a 6 p.m. contest.
