Lady Dogs fall to Lafayette High
LAFAYETTE – The growing pains continue for the Iota Lady Bulldogs.
The two-time defending state champions, facing a major rebuilding year in 2008-09, fell to 14-5 on the season earlier in the week when they dropped a 50-32 non-district decision to Class 5A Lafayette on the Lady Lions’ home court.
Lafayette improved to 12-3 with the victory.
Iota fell behind early, trailing 15-14 after the first quarter. The Lady Dogs remained within striking distance at the break, falling behind 24-20.
Lafayette took over in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Dogs 11-4 to take a 35-24 advantage heading into the final stanza.
The Lady Lions increased their lead to 39-27 with 5:25 remaining and 45-32 three minutes later. Iota went scoreless over the last two and a half minutes of the game.
Iota was able to avoid a blowout by converting on six 3-pointers. Katie Latiola and Tori Storderd each drained two long balls while Allison Baggett and Ashtyn Wriborg connected on one each.
Latiola led the Lady Dogs with 10 points and Baggett followed with nine. Stroderd chipped in eight points, Wriborg had three and Jade LeJeune finished with two.
Iota will be in action again on Saturday when they take on Opelousas Catholic at 5:30 p.m. in the opening round of the Midland Spectacular.
