Lady Dogs land pair on 5-AA first team

CROWLEY – Iota’s Lauren LeJeune and Maggie Frey both played key roles in leading the Lady Bulldogs to a fourth-place finish in District 5-AA, a league loaded the likes of powerhouses Pine Prairie, Mamou and Kinder, as well as helping guide their team to the playoffs despite an 11-16 overall record.

For their efforts, the duo was named to the All-District team that was recently announced by the league’s coaches.

LeJeune, who recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, Miss. beginning in the fall, was named to the first team as a pitcher after going 6-6 in league play. She was also a force at the plate, hitting .304 during the district slate.

Frey hit .347 and made the team as a first baseman.

Iota catcher Gabbi Heinen, outfielder Laura Cart and utility players Katy Comeaux and Celena Bobbett were named to the second team.

Lady Dogs tabbed to the honorable mention list include Caroline Hebert, April Sensat and Holly Guillory.

Pine Prairie swept the league’s top honors in Most Valuable Player Courtney Townsend and Coach of the Year Carolyn Deville.
