Lady Pios, CHS Ladies log key district victories
RAYNE – During a Tuesday afternoon softball game at Gossen Memorial Park, the Lady Pios of Notre Dame claimed a much-needed 6-2 district win over the Rayne High Lady Wolves.
Notre Dame struck for an early 3-0 lead in the first three innings of play as Taylor Boulet crossed the plate once and Taylor Simon twice.
With a defensive macth-up in the middle innings, Rayne High finally answered with runs by Ariel Meche and Courtney Boutin in the fifth on a two-run RBI by Kelsey Hollier.
But, it was too little, too late as the Lady Pios answered with another three runs in the sixth inning for the 6-2 Notre Dame win.
Tagging home were Heidi Bellard, Meagan Murrell and Meranda LeBlanc on two passed balls by Rayne.
Amelia Lavergne claimed the Notre Dame win, while Rayne’s Mariel Meche was tagged with the loss.
CHS 11, Church Point 3
CROWLEY – The first meeting between the Crowley Ladies and Church Point back on March 10 came down to the wire with the Lady Bears claiming a 6-5 home victory.
Tuesday’s contest between the two teams wasn’t nearly as close.
The CHS Ladies broke the game open early, scoring six runs in the second inning and five in the third to coast to an 11-3 victory over the visiting Lady Bears.
Crowley improved to 12-7 overall and 4-3 in District 4-AAA play with the victory. Church Point fell to 10-10 and 4-3.
Sophomore hurler Olivia Boullion earned the victory on the mound, scattering nine hits while walking one. She struck out nine in the complete game victory.
McKenzi Dailey suffered the loss for Church Point, giving up all 11 runs on nine hits and five walks. She struck out four in five innings of work.
Skylor Huval paced the Ladies offensively with two hits and two RBI. Megan Guidry also had two hits in the victory.
Hannah Doucet and Jessica Powell each singled and drove in two runs while Maranda Guidry singled in one run. Heather Trahan and Meagan Sonnier rounded out the Ladies’ offense with one hit each.
Dailey and Haillie Lavergne each had thee hits for the Lady Bears while Robbie Dailey, Hannah Benoit and Carrie Bentley each had one hit.
