Lady Pios cruise past Abbeville in District 5-3A softball action
ABBEVILLE – The Notre Dame Lady Pios improved to 11-4 overall and 2-1 in District 5-3A with a 16-0 victory over the homestanding Abbeville Lady Wildcats Tuesday afternoon.
The game was halted after the third inning due to the mercy rule.
Notre Dame got off to a fast start in the first inning, plating seven runs. They added eight more Lady Pios in the second frame, one run in the third and held Abbeville scoreless in the bottom of the frame to end the game.
Amelia Lavergne logged the victory on the mound, tossing a one-hit shutout. She struck out five.
Offensively, the Lady Pios banged out 17 hits in the three inning affair.
Charlotte Brown paced the Lady Pios with a 3-for-3 performance that included two doubles and four RBI.
Taylor Boulet, Katherine Kirsch, Heidi Bellard and Megan Murrell followed with two hits and two RBI each. Kirsch also had a home run while Bellard had a double. Taylor Simon added two hits and one RBI and Hillary Stelly was 2-for-2.
Also contributing in the victory were Alexa Thibodeaux with a double and Maranda LeBlanc with a single and a RBI.
The Lady Pios will be in action again Thursday when they travel to Leroy to take on North Vermilion at 4 p.m.
Crowley High and Iota were also victorious in softball action
The CHS Ladies, coming off a 4-game sweep at the Port Allen Tournament, defeated Westlake 8-2 while the IHS Lady Dogs picked up a 5-4 victory over Westminster.
Stats were not available at press time for either of those games.
