Lady Pios cruise past Church Point
CHURCH POINT – The Notre Dame Lady Pios rebounded from a rough weekend tournament appearance by coasting to a 14-0 District 5-AAA victory over Church Point Tuesday.
The Lady Pios (11-11, 3-1) played error-free ball and pounded out 13 hits in the victory.
“We played together today,” said Notre Dame coach Lance Reed following the victory. “We were a complete unit both on defense and offense and that is what we needed right before the second round of district begins.”
Notre Dame took a 4-0 advantage in the second inning courtesy of a three-run triple by Anna Brown and one-run double by Taylor Simon.
The Lady Pios increased their lead to 7-0 in the fourth. Meranda LeBlanc had a solo home run in the frame.
The Lady Pios closed the game out in the sixth inning with seven runs.
Brown led the Lady Pios at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, including a triple and four RBI. Hannah Miller had three hits and two RBI and Simon had three hits and four stolen bases.
LeBlanc had two hits and two RBI while Alex Boulet and Hillary Stelly each had one hit.
Amelia Lavergne logged the victory on the mound, tossing a three-hit shutout. She struck out one.
Church Point’s Amia Lyons suffered the loss, giving up seven runs on six hits and two walks through four innings.
Notre Dame will return to district action Tuesday when they travel to Northwest for a 4 p.m. contest.
