Lady Pios cruise past Crowley in league showdown
CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Lady Pios jumped out to an early lead and then exploded for seven runs in the final inning to cruise past Crowley High, 10-0, Thursday evening at Hensgens Field.
The Lady Pios improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in District 4-3A play with the victory. The CHS Ladies fell to 7-6-1 and 1-2.
“This was a big victory,” said ND coach Lauren Delahoussaye. “Obviously we want to win every district game we play and, hopefully, we are building up some momentum.”
The momentum swung in Notre Dame’s favor in the third inning when the Lady Pios pushed across their first run of the game.
An inning later, the Lady Pios plated two more runs to take a 3-0 advantage.
“Their pitcher really threw a great game,” said Delahoussaye of CHS hurler Olivia Boullion. “She has improved a lot and the team overall has improved a lot since we played them last year. It was a pretty good game for the most part.”
Boullion was able to hold Notre Dame in check in the fifth and sixth innings, but the Lady Pios broke the game wide open in the final frame.
Notre Dame collected eight of its 14 hits in the seventh inning and pushed across seven runs to put the game completely out of reach.
“We had been battling consistency the whole game and I think after we saw her (Boullion) for six innings, we started to get our timing down,” said Delahoussaye of the seventh-inning outburst.
Molly Stelly picked up the victory in the circle. The sophomore pitcher limited the CHS Ladies to just three hits. She walked four and struck out eight.
Boullion was tagged with the loss for the Ladies. She gave up 14 hits and struck out four.
Boullion, Jessica Powell and Megan Guidry each had one hit for the Ladies.
The Lady Pios were led by Taylor Boulet’s 3-for-5 performance at the plate.
Freshman Elise LeBeouf followed with two hits and two RBI. Sophomore Mira Lavergne also had two hits, including a double and one RBI. Katherine Kirsch added two singles and one RBI; freshman Taylor Satchell was 2-for-2; Alexa Thibodeaux tripled and drove in two runs; Hillary Stelly singled and had two RBI and Charlotte Brown had two RBI.
The Lady Pios return to action Tuesday when they play host to South Beauregard at 5 p.m. Crowley will travel to Westlake for a 4 p.m. league showdown.
