Lady Pios cruise past Erath
ERATH – Notre Dame’s pesky defense was too tough to handle Friday night in Erath.
The Lady Pios (7-3) led from start to finish for a 53-38 win on the Lady Bobcats’ home court.
The tone was set early by the trapping pressure defense from ND’s guard trio of Taylor Simon, Celia Charles and Alex Boulet.
Charles scored 24 points to lead the Pios, with most of those points coming off transition offense sparked by steals and pressure turnovers. When Erath was able to cross half court, ND post players Kylie Pannell and Andre Lyons controlled the boards to start secondary breaks for more layup attacks on the basket.
The Pios scored a pair of quick buckets and coasted to a 16-9 first quarter lead. Erath twice closed to within six points in the second quarter as Coach Nolan Theriot’s aggressive defense teetered on the brink of foul trouble. But utilizing the Pios bench kept the heat on a Bobcat backcourt that eventually stooped to the pressure.
Each time the Bobcats would make a run, Notre Dame pulled its game back together and pressured Erath into mistakes. With the start of the second half, Notre Dame was relentless in gradually building its lead from nine to fifteen points to close out the win.
The potent Pios’ backcourt trio combined for 37 of Notre Dame’s 53 points. Charles dropped home eleven field goals and was two-of-two at the free throw line to reach her game high 24 points. Simon ran the show from the point guard position and added nine points to go with five steals and seven assists. Alex Boulet added three steals and three assists.
Kylie Pannell finished with nine points inside. Chelsea Meaux scored four, Emily Vidrine had two and Andre Lyons hit one of two free throws to round out the scoring.
